With new technologies becoming more prevalent in the Life Sciences industry, Medical Devices are becoming more and more complex. Technologies such as Assisted Surgical Robotics, Implantable and Wearable Devices, Complex Imaging, and the move to Personalized Medicine have driven the need for Life Science companies to accelerate new product development and shorten time to market all while improving patient outcomes and quality.
Leveraging a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) solution allows companies to reduce complexity, rework, and quality issues while meeting regulatory compliance and lowering risk. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to leverage model-based technologies to support development of system requirements, design, analysis, verification and validation from concept, through development, to manufacturing. This is done in compliance with industry best practices and standards for modeling and simulation.
* Attendees are encouraged to bring their own laptops to participate in the hands-on workshop. Temporary licenses for the software used will be provided beforehand via email. The license will be sent to the email address you register with, please check it before the class (including spam folder).
Who Should Attend:
Leadership teams, Management, Engineers supporting Systems, Requirements, Simulation, Verification & Validation, and Conceptual Design, Engineers supporting Systems and Simulation IT, Analysis Experts, and Design Engineers.
You will learn major parts of digital engineering with MBSE – including system architecture in SysML, design, analysis and model management capabilities in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
The session will cover five major integration points already available by this year and we will talk about roadmap. We will cover system architecture in SysML and:
• Requirements Management
• Product line engineering and variants management
• Simulation, workflow automation, optimization
• Design continuity
• Traceability and baselines
8:00 AM – 9:00 AM: Lite Breakfast
9:00 AM – 10:00 AM: “Deploying Key Elements of MBSE in Medical Device Design” with Mr. Casey Medina
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Hands-on use of an MBSE tool coupled with a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platform to go from System Architecture to Analysis and Design (Part 1) with Mr. Saulius Pavalkis, PhD, and Ms. Rosa Gragossian.
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Lunch
1:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Hands-on use of an MBSE tool coupled with a PLM platform (Part 2) with Saulius Pavalkis and Rosa Gragossian
Casey currently practices and teaches systems and quality engineering across industries, including the medical device, aerospace, and defense industries. He is a dynamic speaker and owns Studio SE, a Systems Engineering training and consulting firm located in the Denver area. He has extensive experience deploying and training Model-Based Systems Engineering, requirements engineering, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), human factors, quality engineering, risk management, and medical device design control. Casey has adapted Systems Engineering tools and techniques to analyze social and natural systems. Casey is working to identify, analyze, and address social issues that lead to homelessness to help organizations provide targeted, customized, aid to help individuals overcome the challenges that lead to experiencing homelessness.
Casey has developed products in the areas of automated stem cell growth, patient monitoring, pulse-oximetry, blood collections, electro-surgery, and therapeutics. He holds 12 patents for medical devices and has another six patent applications awaiting approval. Prior to designing medical devices, he led the creative development team for Zed, Inc. which produced architectural and interior design products.
Casey infuses practical experience into his training programs. He has multiple publications and has been invited as a guest lecturer at the University of Denver, Dublin City University, and the University of Colorado. Additionally, he has presented to numerous trade and professional organizations due to his pragmatic approach to design. Casey also serves as the lead instructor for the Caltech MBSE certificate program.
Saulius is the Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Transformation Leader & MBSE R&D Cyber Portfolio Manager at Dassault Systemes.
