Abstract:

* Roland’s public releasable report can be downloaded HERE.

This evening Mr. Roland Feghali will be presenting on his six-month residency at Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cyber Information Technology Exchange Program (CITEP). The CITEP provided him the opportunity to discover the “how” and “why” of cloud implementation success, which fueled the “what” of cloud products and tools. He will highlight the three basic success tenets of this disrupting company:

  1. The “microservicing” of the culture
  2. A stable and supportive infrastructure environment, and
  3. State-of-the-art dependable Technology-as-a-Service

Applying these tenants successfully in an organization requires an upgrade to agile processes while adopting an agile culture. Mr. Feghali will also summarize the 14 Amazon Leadership Principles as the guiding principles for the cultural transformation. For example, the Learning Principle of Customer Obsession involves a technique of developing a 6-page (limit enforced) document that is read (in silence) by the team before discussing.

We invite SD INCOSE members (and guests) to attend this exciting presentation and to discuss how the AWS Tenants and Leadership Principles can be applied to your organization!

Presenter: Roland Feghali

A native of Los Angeles, CA, Mr. Roland Feghali grew up in Jounieh, Lebanon before returning stateside to earn a B.S. in Computer Engineering in 2001 from Purdue University. In 2002 he began a career in civil service where he served in a variety of technical and professional assignments in engineering, project management, and research and development. In 2008, he earned a Masters in Systems Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School. His professional experience includes management and systems engineering responsibilities for major U.S. military Programs of Record (PORs), including the Joint Strike Imagery Processing System, Fielded Distributed Common Ground System – Navy (DCGS-N), and Naval Integrated Tactical-Cloud Reference for Operational Superiority (NITROS).

In August 2015, he began his current assignment as Technical Director and Cyber Security Lead, for the Carrier and Air Integration Program Office, PMW 750. He established the Integration Center of Excellence to structure Integration and Interoperability within the PEO C4I Integration Offices.

In October 2018, Mr. Feghali was selected as the first Echelon II Government Civil Servant to participate in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Cyber Information Technology Exchange Program (CITEP). He spent the six months exchange at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) headquarters in Seattle, WA where he studied the ways and means by which industry partners achieve success. He discovered a cultural innovation by which AWS applied the technical construct of microservices to their organizational structure; leading him to coin the term “Microservicing of Culture”.
