5G; A wireless technology for the humans and the machines

Wednesday April 19, 2017 5:15 PM to 7:30 PM

5G – A wireless technology for the humans and the machines.

Note – This presentation is open to all, even non-members.

Our April presentation will be by Dr. Svetislav Maric, head of the system engineering cetification program at UCSD Extension.

In this talk we first remind ourselves how we arrived at the doorsteps of 5G wireless systems. We then briefly look at the organization of the 3GPP, the standards body responsible for developing the wireless systems from 3G onwards. The 4G LTE call setup is used as an illustration of the complexity of each component in the system. We then move on to 5G and first introduce the use cases 3GPP defined, 5G architecture and then discuss the specific use cases like V2X. We finish the talk with a note on how, and if 5G will be a socially fair wireless system, and can we do something about it.

Dinner buffet will be served prior starting at 5:15 pm. The buffet and general networking is 5:15 – 6pm, with the presentation starting at 6pm. The cost is $5 for INCOSE members and $10 for non-members.
