Wednesday March 21, 2018 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM

(This event is free and open to all, including non-members.)

Location: Filippi’s Restaurant in Kearny Mesa at 5353 Kearny Villa Rd, San Diego, CA 92123.

Date/Time: March 21, 2018, 5:30-7pm

This presentation includes an optional buffet for $10/$15. Please see below.

Free Raffle – There will also be a free raffle for a copy of Ray’s book, Software Process Dynamics, a $125 value! You must be in attendance to enter.

WEBCASTING – This presentation will be our first to include webcasting. This will allow you to log in over the internet to view the slide presentation and listen to the live discussion. Chat will be enabled, but please note that in order to maintain proper presentation flow and quality, we will not be accepting voice questions from viewers (we may add this in the future).

Webcasting will start at approximately 5:55 pm and go until end of presentation.

WEBCAST INSTRUCTIONS: We will be using GlobalMeet webcast software. You may be prompted to install their application. Please allow time to install the software before the start of the meeting (it will take at least a few minutes to do this).

Download GlobalMeet Software

  • PC or Mac Computer Users – you will be required to either use a Flash-enabled browser or to run a (free) downloadable executable file (Flash may still require an additional install).
  • Mobile Devices Users – you will need to download the (free) GlobalMeet app from your respective app store.

Title: Software Process Dynamics – Assessing and Optimizing Software Development Strategies

Synopsis:

This presentation will overview software process dynamics modeling for assessing and optimizing software development strategies. It explains how simulation of interrelated technical and social factors can provide a means for understanding and improving processes. It will introduce software process modeling with system dynamics, model structures and system behaviors, the modeling process, and present case studies.

System dynamics is a rich and integrative simulation framework used to quantify the complex interactions and the strategy tradeoffs between cost, schedule, quality and risk. Many questions abound when building software:

  • What to build?
  • Who will build it?
  • Where/how to build?
  • When and in what order?
  • How do you adapt to change? and
  • How much is enough?
Speaker: Ray Madachy

Dr. Ray Madachy has been an Associate Professor since 2008 at the Naval Postgraduate School. Ray received his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in 1994. His background is in modeling and simulation of processes for architecting and engineering of complex systems; cost analysis and value-base engineering of software intensive systems; quantitative methods for systems risk management; systems and software measurement; process improvement; and quality; integrating systems engineering and software engineering disciplines and empirical-based research with process simulation.

Presentation and Dinner:
The first 1/2 hour is for dinner and networking. The optional buffet dinner starts at 5:30. The presentation begins at approximately 6 pm. The cost of the buffet is $10 for members, $15 for non-members, and includes pizza, salad, pastas, and soft drinks.
