Systems Engineering and Photography? You Bet!

There are many examples of how SE is used to successfully develop technical systems such as satellites and software. But can systems engineering principles also be applied to more creative endeavors such as photography?  This presentation will discuss specific use cases of using SE requirements, planning, and discipline to achieve a desired effect during photo shoots.

Date: Wednesday, 22 Feb 2023, 5:45-7:00pm (presentation starts at 6pm)  Pacific Time
Location: Filippis Restaurant in Kearny Mesa (San Diego), 5353 Kearny Villa Rd, San Diego, CA 92123 (Google Maps)
Cost: Free!  There will also be an optional buffet (Italian food) for $5 for INCOSE members, $15 non-INCOSE members starting about 5:30pm – please join us!!

Abstract: What does it take to get great photographs? Like systems engineering, a disciplined approach. While photography is a combination of technical skill and artistic vision, there are also many processes involved, which are based on questions:

  • What do you want to photograph?
  • What are the conditions?
  • What are your tools (and do you know them well enough to effectively use them)?

Like systems engineering, taking the right approach in photography can put you in the best position for success.  This presentation will discuss the fundamentals of successful modern day digital photography and how they align with SE practices.
