Please join us on Wednesday, July 26 at 5:45 pm Pacific Time, for a SEMI-HYBRID presentation by Dr. Barclay Brown and Honor Lind on Storytelling for Systems Engineers.

Why should you attend this presentation on Storytelling?

Systems engineers must be able to communicate about existing and potential systems to be effective. Effective communication includes personal skills, like public speaking and presenting, but also the ability to deliver compelling visions of new and existing systems by telling stories.

Date: Wednesday, 26 July 2023, from 5:45-7pm Pacific Time (presentation begins at 6pm)
Location: Filippi’s Restaurant in Kearny Mesa, San Diego, CA.  5353 Kearny Villa Rd, San Diego, CA 92123 (Google Maps)
Cost: Free!  There is also an optional buffet at the restaurant for $5 for members, $15 non-members (serving Italian food such as pizza, spaghetti, salad, and soft drinks)

This presentation offers an introduction to storytelling for systems engineers. In addition to the purely descriptive purpose of storytelling, we plan to include the persuasive aspect as well. Stories are often intended to persuade and to sell ideas, programs, and approaches to a company’s senior management or to a company’s customers. One of us (Honor) has extensive background in storytelling in marketing, advertising, and sales contexts and the other (Barclay) is an experienced public speaker and written and taught the use of stories as a fundamental method in systems engineering.

Honor A. Lind is Director of Marketing and Communications for INCOSE. She has over 20 years’ experience in marketing, and in recent years has focused on engineering organizations. She has a master’s degree in public administration with a focus on nonprofit management and marketing, and degrees in art and communications. In her art, she focuses on telling stories through art, symbol, and mythology.
