MARCH 2012 MONTHLY MEETING

Date: March 21, 2012 – 5:00 pm – 7:10 pm

Gregg Oliver on Why Won’t They Just LISTEN???

Abstract: To many of us, being an effective communicator means “getting others to adopt my ideas”. While this is a worthwhile result, it is often difficult to get there in a single bound (that was what made Superman so special!)

In order to achieve that end, we sometimes need to walk our counterpart from positions of resistance to listening, to considering, to agreeing, and ultimately to doing. When we approach the result this way, we find that the activity is less daunting and that the tools are easier to implement.

In this one-hour presentation, Gregg Oliver will talk about how the journey from resistance to adoption is made and focusing on the first step, moving out of resistance to listening. We will talk about where resistance comes from, how it affects us all, and how we can help those with whom we do business to “break through” their reluctance.

About the Speaker: Gregg Oliver has worked as an individual contributor and manager in engineering and manufacturing businesses for over 35 years.
