Synopsis:

Digital SE is coming – no more manually entering data into Excel spreadsheets, using out-of-date versions of architectural diagrams, and confusion. How can we embrace MBSE and SysML in the most painless way possible?  We build models to manage complexity, but not all models are good!  There are many ways to build a bad model. Tonight we discuss what it takes to build a good model and how to validate it. We also discuss SysML, the meta-language of MBSE. But how many views of the model is enough, or too much? In this presentation, we will also look at architectural dependencies, compliance, and decay.

BONUS – This evening will include a second presentation by Mr. Vinarcik on MBSE. Please check back closer to the date for topic and synopsis!

Speakers:

Ms. Heidi Jugovic

Heidi Jugovic is a chief solutions architect in the digital engineering practice within SAIC’s Strategy, Growth, and Innovation group. She assists with the development of SAIC’s digital engineering capabilities and coaches digital engineering execution in programs across the U.S. Department of Defense, in order to develop the next generation of engineers capable in model-based systems engineering.

Heidi has 13 years of defense engineering experience, with an emphasis on model-based systems engineering and digital transformation. She leverages her experience in the product development lifecycle of ground stations for system-of-record overhead persistent infrared (OPIR) satellites, air-to-ground radar systems, electronic attack, and integrated airborne and naval mission system architectures to bring assured capabilities to SAIC’s customers. Heidi is a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a missile defense early warning engineer, operator, and technician. Heidi is also a Certified Systems Engineering Professional, a published author, and public speaker.

Mr. Michael Vinarcik

Michael J. Vinarcik is a Chief Systems Engineer at SAIC and an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit Mercy. He has thirty years of automotive and defense engineering experience. He received a BS (Metallurgical Engineering) from the Ohio State University, an MBA from the University of Michigan, and an MS (Product Development) from the University of Detroit Mercy. Michael has presented at National Defense Industrial Association, International Council on Systems Engineering, and American Society for Engineering Education regional and international conferences. He is a regular speaker at the No Magic World Symposium. Michael has contributed chapters to Industrial Applications of X-ray Diffraction, Taguchi’s Quality Engineering Handbook, and Case Studies in System of Systems, Enterprise Systems, and Complex Systems Engineering; he also contributed a case study to the Systems Engineering Body of Knowledge (SEBoK). He is a licensed Professional Engineer (Michigan) and holds INCOSE ESEP-Acq, OCSMP: Model Builder – Advanced, Booz Allen Hamilton Systems Engineering Expert Belt, ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, and ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer certifications. He is a Fellow of the Engineering Society of Detroit, the President and Founder of Sigma Theta Mu, the systems honor society, and the current Treasurer of INCOSE.
